Prof. Yoshihisa SHIMIZU is a professor of Research Center for Environmental Quality Management, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University in Japan.
For his undergraduate and master degrees, he majored in Civil and Construction Engineering at Kanazawa University in Japan. Then he moved to the University of Texas at Austin, USA and shifted his major to Environmental and Sanitary Engineering. After receiving his PhD degree, he joined Kyoto University, and has been a professor since 2007.
His research areas are,
- Integrated Watershed Management with Asian Wisdom,
- Characterization of Natural Organic Matter (NOM) in the Aquatic Environment,
- Recovery of Inorganic Nutrients by Urine Diversion Toilet, and
- Remediation of Contaminated Soil and Groundwater, etc.
He is the editor of an international journal, Environmental Technology, and also a recipient of Japan Water Prize in 2012.
